THE REASON FOR CHRISTIAN WORSHIP

WHY DO WE HAVE TO WORSHIP GOD?

But the hour cometh and now is, when the true worshippers shall worship the father in spirit and in truth: for the Father seeketh such to worship Him. God is a Spirit and they that worship Him must worship Him in spirit and in truth. John 4:23-24
I was just thinking some time ago about the mystery of worship: how deep it is, for we in our imperfect mortal state can never fully fathom the very being whom we claim to worship; how God so much cherishes it that He would have to seek out worshippers. May the Holy Spirit that searches the deep thing of God and reveals them to the saints guide us into all truth and enlighten our hearts as we read. Just to pre-warn you before you continue reading, if you are satisfied with the status quo of what we term worship you’d better exit this blog right now because what I’m about to expose is the bone of the dealings of God with man and it will shift many paradigms in your life. If you decide to read on, congratulations for you are about to know the joy of worshipping God- no more will it be a boring chore you have to get through with in a haste but you will never ever want to leave the secret place of true worship.
God is a supreme being and obviously self-sufficient. He will fare well if not much better without us, so then why doesn’t He wipe us out considering our foolishness? We’ll have to look back and see it from God’s perspective why He insists that man must be the one to worship Him. I used to and still think that maybe God was lonely and wanted some company that could proclaim His greatness so he made Heaven to be His home. He created majestic beings called angels who were His ministers and particularly Lucifer who was the arch-angel in charge of worship. Unfortunately, Lucifer messed up- we all know that story. But the fact that never ceases to fascinate me is that assuming satan never fell, there might not have been any need for humans. God created us as a replacement to spite the devil and that is why he was so mad that he decided to hurt God by meddling with His grand plan. Too bad… we fell to his antics in the garden of Eden oblivious to what we had missed. God isn’t ready to lose his second creation that He gave the special gift of free-will and of being his children, so he sent Jesus to redeem us. Jesus said at a point that if we reject Him and refuse to give Him praise, He will raise up stones in our place.
The hour has come when true worshippers will worship God in spirit and in truth. God is seeking people that will abandon the archaic and worldly idea of worship and press into true worship. False worship of hypocrisy, many but vain actions and words are no longer acceptable.
If I were hungry, I would not tell thee: for the world is mine, and the fullness thereof. Will I eat the flesh of bulls, or drink the blood of goats? Offer unto God thanksgiving… psalms 50:12-14a
Bring no more vain oblations; incense is an abomination unto me; the new moons and sabbaths, the calling of assemblies, I cannot away with it; it is iniquity, even the solemn meeting. Isaiah 1:13
As Annie Dillard wrote:
On the whole, I do not find Christians, outside of the catacombs, sufficiently sensible of conditions. Does anyone have the foggiest idea what sort of power we so blithely invoke? Or as I suspect, does no one believe a word of it?... it is madness to wear ladies’ straw or velvet hats to church; we should all be wearing crash helmets. Usher should issue life preservers and signal flares.
I’m gonna highlight some reasons why we ought to worship God
·         God deserves our worship.
·         God demands our worship
·         The more we give God, the more we can receive from Him.
·         Worship reconnects our spirits to God
·         We gain access to God’s presence through worship
·         Worship moves God.

Trenches of Flame (A Christian Speculative Short Story)

Trenches of Flame by Shalom Mawonou  The night was bitter with smoke. The air, thick with the metallic stench of blood and scorched metal, making it hard to breathe. Private Malakai Yared crouched low in the trench, rifle slung over one shoulder, Bible tucked inside his fatigues.   The enemy had shelled their unit relentlessly for three days. Supplies were low. Morale was lower. Men muttered about desertion, others about madness. But Malakai—he burned with something else.   “Still reading that old book, preacher boy?” Corporal Janik scoffed as he passed.   Malakai didn't answer. He had been called "preacher boy" since boot camp, but not because he preached—he didn’t. Not yet. He was silent, watchful, strange to many. But inside, something had begun to stir since that night under the broken church roof two weeks ago, when a presence more real than the war wrapped him in fire and whispered, “You are light. Shine where it’s darkest.” He had s...

She Called Me Light (A Christian Speculative Short Story)

She Called Me Light  by Emmanuel Mboro Surprised? No. It was nothing. I stopped counting the number of ministers that prophesied to me. "You will be a mighty vessel in a way the world will be both blessed and amazed." I would smile politely, bow my head slightly, and whisper amen as expected. Then I would walk away, wondering which part of me God planned to use. The part that failed every exam? The one that could barely pray for ten minutes without sleeping? I insisted on following her to the hospital as she spoke about the pains again. What if the cancer had returned? What if all those nights of prayer, the fasting, the vigils, were only another lesson in disappointment? The doctor spoke gently, like he was trying not to upset the wind. “It’s back.” Three syllables. That was all but they held the weight of a mountain. “The nurse will help,” Mama had said, the night we returned from the hospital. I thought she meant someone from church or maybe a neighbour. But whe...
